Wakefulness agents and cognition medicines at PCTMart
This category brings together medicines that act on alertness and cognition, and they are not a single class. Modafinil, stocked at 100MG and 200MG, and armodafinil at 50MG and 150MG, are wakefulness-promoting agents approved for narcolepsy, shift work sleep disorder and obstructive sleep apnoea. The honest position on the wakefulness agents is that most people buying them do not have narcolepsy. Used for study or long working hours, they are being used outside what they were approved for, and the evidence that they improve performance in rested, healthy people is considerably weaker than their reputation suggests. What they reliably do is delay sleep, which has its own cost. They also raise heart rate and blood pressure in some people, interact with hormonal contraception by reducing its effectiveness, and carry a rare but serious rash risk that warrants stopping immediately.
The dementia medicines work differently
The dementia medicines work differently again: they are started low and increased in steps, often cause nausea early on, and are assessed over months rather than days. They are not interchangeable with the wakefulness agents in any sense.
