About tricyclic antidepressants

Tricyclics are an older class of antidepressant. Today low doses of amitriptyline (Tryptican) and nortriptyline (Nortimer) are prescribed more often for nerve pain, migraine prevention and sleep than for depression. Clomipramine (Clonil) is used for OCD, and imipramine (Depsonil) for depression and bedwetting.

They cause drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation, and are dangerous in overdose, so they should only be used as prescribed.
