Blood pressure medicines: classes and combinations we carry
Blood pressure is managed with several different classes of medicine, and this category carries all of the common ones. Calcium channel blockers include amlodipine and cilnidipine. The ARBs (telmisartan, losartan, olmesartan, irbesartan, valsartan) sit alongside ACE inhibitors such as ramipril, lisinopril and enalapril. Beta blockers are represented by metoprolol, atenolol, bisoprolol, carvedilol and nebivolol. The category also holds diuretics used for blood pressure, ivabradine for rate control, and antiplatelet and anticoagulant medicines including clopidogrel, apixaban, rivaroxaban and enoxaparin.
Fixed-dose combinations, and what two numbers mean
Fixed-dose combinations are common and account for a large share of what is stocked. Amlodipine with telmisartan, cilnidipine with telmisartan, losartan with hydrochlorothiazide and metoprolol with telmisartan all appear, each with two strengths printed together on the pack. Because of that, the number on a combination box cannot be compared directly with the number on a single-ingredient one. Check both figures against what you were told to take.
Common strengths and release forms
Common strengths run from 2.5MG and 5MG for amlodipine, through 25MG, 40MG and 80MG for telmisartan, to 12.5MG, 25MG and 50MG for metoprolol, with extended-release versions of several. Extended-release and immediate-release forms of the same molecule at the same number are not interchangeable.
Why stopping quietly is the real risk
Treatment here is long-term and judged on readings rather than on how you feel, which makes it easy to stop without noticing anything, and that is precisely why stopping without advice is risky. If you are looking for a specific molecule or combination, the active ingredient filter is the quickest route to every brand we hold of it. Any change to dose or class should go through the doctor monitoring your blood pressure. Stock ships from India via licensed distributors with a minimum of twelve months of shelf life remaining on despatch.
Keep a note of molecules, not brands
It is worth keeping a written note of the molecules and strengths you take, rather than the brand names. Brands change between manufacturers and countries, while the molecule and the number do not, and that list is what any doctor treating you will actually want to see.
