About fluoroquinolones
Fluoroquinolones are broad-spectrum antibiotics used for urinary, gut and some chest infections. Ciprofloxacin is sold here as Ciplox and Ciprowin, levofloxacin as Levoflox and Lquin, ofloxacin as Oflox and Olox, and moxifloxacin as Moxicip. Products such as O2 combine ofloxacin with ornidazole for mixed infections.
They are usually kept for infections other antibiotics cannot treat, because they carry warnings about tendon damage and nerve effects. They are not normally given to children or in pregnancy.
