Testenate Depot 250MG (Testosterone)

Testenate Depot 250MG is Scott Edil Pharmacia Ltd's testosterone injection, 250 mg, in a ampoule of 1ml ampoule. Testosterone is the main male sex hormone, and the prescription form replaces it when the body no longer makes enough.

Testosterone is prescribed for male hypogonadism: low testosterone confirmed by blood tests, with symptoms such as low libido, erectile problems, fatigue, loss of muscle and bone, and low mood. Causes include testicular failure, pituitary disease and, increasingly, age-related decline treated under a doctor's care.nnIt is also the hormone used in masculinising hormone therapy for transgender men, and is sometimes prescribed to women in small doses for low libido after the menopause.

Testosterone acts on androgen receptors in muscle, bone, skin, the brain and the reproductive organs. In muscle and bone it drives protein synthesis and bone density; in the skin it raises oil production and hair growth; in the brain it supports libido and mood. Part of each dose is converted into oestradiol by the aromatase enzyme and part into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), and those two hormones account for several of its effects and side effects.nnInjectable testosterone is attached to an ester (enanthate, cypionate, propionate, undecanoate) that controls how slowly it is released from the injection site: propionate acts for days, enanthate and cypionate for one to two weeks, undecanoate for months.

Injections are given into a muscle, usually the buttock or thigh. The interval depends on the ester: propionate is given every two to three days, enanthate and cypionate every one to four weeks, and undecanoate every ten to fourteen weeks, with the dose adjusted to blood levels. Gels are applied once daily to the shoulders, upper arms or abdomen and left to dry; oral testosterone undecanoate capsules are taken with food.nnYour doctor sets the dose from your blood tests and symptoms. Follow the prescription and the pack leaflet, and do not change the dose or interval yourself.

Common effects of any testosterone product:n- Acne and oily skin.n- Fluid retention and a rise in blood pressure.n- A rise in red blood cell count (haematocrit), which thickens the blood and raises the risk of clots if unchecked.n- Lower HDL cholesterol.n- Breast tenderness or enlargement (gynaecomastia) from conversion to oestrogen.n- Suppression of the body's own testosterone and sperm production, which can reduce fertility and shrink the testes while on treatment.n- Male-pattern hair loss and prostate enlargement from conversion to DHT.n- Mood changes, irritability and sleep apnoea.n- Pain, redness or a lump at the injection site; skin irritation with gels.nnIn women, testosterone causes virilization: deeper voice, facial hair, clitoral enlargement and acne, some of it permanent.

Testosterone is not used by men with prostate or breast cancer, by anyone with a very high red cell count or uncontrolled heart failure, or in pregnancy. Men over 40 need a prostate check (PSA and examination) before starting and during treatment.nnBlood tests for testosterone, haematocrit, lipids and PSA are repeated during treatment. Gels transfer to other people through skin contact, so the treated area is covered once dry and children and pregnant women are kept away from it.
