About Retino A Micro
Retino A Micro is Johnlee Pharmaceuticals's tretinoin cream, in a tube of 15gm. Tretinoin is a prescription retinoid, a form of vitamin A acid applied to the skin, also known as all-trans retinoic acid and sold as Retin-A.
What it is used for
Tretinoin cream and gel are prescribed for acne and for the skin changes of sun damage: fine lines, rough texture and uneven pigmentation. In many countries it is also used under a doctor for melasma as part of a combination treatment.
How it works
Tretinoin binds retinoic acid receptors in skin cells. It speeds up the turnover of the top layer of skin, loosens the plugs that block pores, and stimulates collagen production in the deeper layer, which smooths fine lines over months. It is also broken down by sunlight, which is why it is applied at night.
How it is taken
A pea-sized amount is spread thinly over the whole clean, dry face once a day at night, starting every second or third night for the first weeks while the skin adjusts. Strengths from 0.025% to 0.1% are used, with the lowest chosen first. Results take 8 to 12 weeks or longer. Follow your prescription and the pack leaflet.
Side effects
- Redness, dryness, peeling and flaking.n- Burning, stinging or itching, most often in the first weeks.n- Dark or light patches of skin in some people.n- Increased sensitivity to sun.n- Allergic skin reactions are rare.
Precautions
Tretinoin is not used in pregnancy or while trying to conceive, and it is not applied to the breasts or chest while breastfeeding. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily and avoid strong sun, sunlamps and tanning beds while using it. Do not apply to broken, sunburned or eczema skin, and keep it away from the eyes, nostrils and mouth. Start with a small test area, and stop and ask your doctor if irritation is severe. Avoid using it together with harsh scrubs, strong peels, waxing or other irritants, and check with your doctor before combining it with benzoyl peroxide or other acne treatments.
